In Stockholm Royal National City Park you will find three Royal palaces built and used for summertime pleasure retreat. The summer palaces offer a unique opportunity to Swedish history and an insight to Swedish interior design spanning from the 1600s to the 1900s.

Gustav III´s Pavilion at Haga Park is one of the highlights of Swedish art history and is one of the finest examples of the European Neo-Classicism of the late 1700s in Northern Europe. Gustav III made use of the pavilion for a few years before his assassination. It was from here that Gustav III left for the fateful masquerade ball at the Opera in March 1792.

Rosendal Palace is located at the Royal Djurgården hunting park and was built in the 1820s for King Karl XIV Johan, the first Bernadotte. The palace was a summertime pleasure retreat, merely intended as an escape from the formalities of court life at the Royal Palace. The palace stands today largely as it did in Karl Johan's lifetime, which makes Rosendal a unique documentation of the European Empire style, in Sweden also known as the Karl Johan style.

Ulriksdal Palace is situated on the banks of Edsviken and was built in the 1600s. Visitors to the palace witness many different epochs and several Swedish regents have left their mark on Ulriksdal. Queen Kristina built a pleasure garden in front of the palace and Hedvig Elenora built an Orangery in the park. On view are rooms decorated in 1800s Romantic style to the more fastidious interiors of the 1900s. One of the highlights of the palace is the living room that was decorated by Carl Malmsten in the 1920s.

The Royal summer Palaces can be visited during the summer months, June–August, when our knowledgeable guides will take you on a tour of the rooms, Tuesdays–Sundays at 12, 13, 14 and 15. A combination ticket including the three palaces is available.

Stockholm Royal National City Park became the world's first National City Park in 1996. The area, comprising Ulriksdal, Haga, Brunnsviken and Djurgården, is unique by virtue of its natural, cultural and recreational value and its direct proximity to a big city. The Royal National City Park is Sweden's most-visited recreation area.
