The Olle Olsson Hagalund Musuem displays paintings, drawings and theatrical sketches in the house in which the artist lived in entire life. His debut show in 1938 was a breakthrough, making him a renowned artist almost overnight. He was famous and much loved for his affectionate depictions of scenes from Hagalund and other suburbs. With a drastic sense of humour, quiet sadness and great feeling for colour, he painted things that were simple and modest. He was also an individualistic portrait painter, known for his pictures of ballet dancers and nudes. The attractive timber building that houses the museum was built in 1891 by the artist’s grandfather. It was one of the first to be built in this part of Hagalund in Solna, which was an area with no city planning, where craftsmen built according to their own taste. At the end of the 1960s Hagalund was demolished and replaced by eight tower blocks. Olle Olsson fought to at least save a few parts of the old community. Finally, four houses were spared. One of those was Olle Olsson’s unique and artistic home.
