Welcome to Drottningholms Slottsteater – a unique cultural heritage at the Royal domain of Drottningholm, Stockholm. Drottningholms Slottsteater, the Court Theatre built in 1766, is the world’s best preserved 18th century theatre still in use. The theatre is constructed of simple materials and the auditorium is playfully decorated using paint, stucco, and papier mâché. The wooden stage machinery is operated by hand. It includes wind, thunder and cloud machines, as well as traps and moving waves. A guided tour of Drottningholms Slottsteater will convey impressions of theatre life in the 18th century and give a better understanding of our living cultural heritage.
