Southern Sweden » The Swedish Air Force Museum

Visitors of all ages and interests will feel at home at the Swedish Air Force Museum. Focusing on Swedish military aviation, the exhibitions depicts Sweden in the 20th century from different angles: threats from the surrounding world, the emergence of a new Swedish society, the focus on the defence policy and the rapid growth of technical development.

The museum´s collection is regarded as being of world class standard, showing aircraft from the pioneer days of aviation to the current JAS 39 Gripen.

One main attraction is an Air Force DC 3 wreck. This aircraft was shot down by Russian fighters over the Baltic Sea in 1952 but was not located until 2003 and is today a powerful symbol of Sweden during the Cold War.

Both children and adults will enjoy themselves in the museum´s science centre. The experiments are all related to aviation making it easier to understand the technology and principles of aviation. For visitors wanting to know more about aircraft and aviation history there are multimedia displays providing facts, films and photographs of aircraft.
